PAT Testing - Information for Musicians

Many musicians use portable appliances in their performances, from amplifiers to mixing desks, extension leads to lighting rigs. Many music venues now insist that any portable appliances used by a performer on their premises carry a valid test certificate. There are two main reasons for this:

All businesses, including music venues, have a duty of care to their staff and the public - they should have had all their equipment tested, but if an artist brings an untested portable appliances into the venue all their attention to electrical health and safety requirements may be rendered null and void.

Untested portable appliances may invalidate any insurance covering the venue, the public and the performer.

For these reasons it is increasingly common for a venue to refuse to allow untested portable appliances on site, no matter how important they are to the performance. Be aware that performances have been and are cancelled because of this.

However, having your P.A., lighting, power supplies, etc tested is a quick and relatively inexpensive proccess. At Easy PAT we understand the inconvenience of loading and transporting heavy equipment when it can be avoided so if you prefer, we’ll come to you at no extra charge. We’ll provide you with all the certification you need to satisfy any venue’s requirements. Also, if we find any faults we’ll make minor repairs where possible and retest at no extra cost.

Whenever possible we will test equipment at short notice, but it’s better to be safe than sorry, so book in your equipment now, don’t wait till a venue cancels your performance.
